Use the GitHub Student Developer Pack Benefits: GitHub Copilot, Open Source, Data Science, Technical Writing Offers and Machine Learning Offers

DigitaVision TeamTools and accounts team

14 min read

Access to the GitHub Student Developer Pack benefits is free: GitHub Pro while you are a verified student, plus pack offers from partners such as cloud credits, domains, IDEs, courses and monitoring tools. It is a bundle of real world tools that give you hands-on experience. You apply through the education portal with a school email or dated proof of enrollment. Each partner offer has its own length, and some end when you stop being a student.

This guide follows GitHub’s own pages, read in October 2026. Older posts still rank for this topic and many list partners that have since left, so every offer below is stated “as of October 2026” and can change at the partner’s request.

What is the GitHub Education pack?

The education pack is the portal GitHub describes as one place to reach student benefits: curated learning “Experiences”, events, GitHub Classroom assignments, the Campus Experts program for community leaders and the Student Developer Pack itself. The partner offers are the part most students come for, and GitHub’s Student Developer Pack page is the source for everything in the list below. Think of it as free resources for students, with resources and tools that help you collaborate, learn and build.

Two levels of benefit sit inside it:

  • GitHub’s own benefits last while you are a verified student: Pro features plus AI and cloud development allowances.
  • Partner offers are set by each company: a few months, a year, two years, a credit, discounted access, or “while you are a student”.

Partner offers are claimed one by one from the pack page. Verification does not switch every benefit on at once.

GitHub student developer pack list as of October 2026

This list copies the offer text GitHub shows today, grouped by purpose, so you can see which benefits suit your work. At the time of writing the pack page shows 83 offer cards. A partner’s name is the one GitHub uses, and each card on the pack page carries that partner’s own details and support link.

GitHub’s page changes without notice, so check the pack page again before you plan around one partner. A partner that has left, such as DigitalOcean after July 31, 2026 according to GitHub’s partner FAQ, can still appear in older guides.

Experiences: benefits grouped by goal

GitHub says it created the pack with some of its partners and friends, and the pack page groups many offers into Experiences, curated bundles of partner products, GitHub tools and other resources. The bundles named on the page are:

  • Intro to Copilot: a primer on Copilot, where GitHub’s Experiences share tutorials, guides and templates that show how to use AI in your development process.
  • Intro to GitHub: the branch-based workflow behind pull requests, in a short tutorial.
  • GitHub Foundations Certification: FAQs, guides and prep courses for the exam.
  • Intro to Open Source: how to become a contributor, a maintainer or a sponsor, and how to find good first issues. Profile README is a short tutorial that introduces you to the GitHub community.
  • AI Prompting and Technical Writing: the tools, top tips and resources to get started with words.
  • Data Science and Machine Learning: tools to analyze, visualize and collaborate on data, from data collection to prediction.
  • Launchpad: Intro to JavaScript: Scrimba’s interactive approach lets you watch a simple JavaScript tutorial and edit code in real time; no prior knowledge is required to write your first lines of code.
  • Intro to Web Dev: learn to design and build your own website.
  • Mobile App Development: the tools to design, build, test and deploy a mobile app.

Each Experience builds the pack around one goal, so pick the bundle that matches what you want to build.

GitHub student pack eligibility: who qualifies?

To be eligible for the pack, per GitHub Docs, as of October 2026, you need all four of these:

  • You are enrolled in a degree- or diploma-granting program, such as a high school, college, university or homeschool.
  • You can show current student status with documents.
  • You have a GitHub personal account.
  • You are at least 13 years old.

GitHub accepts a picture of a school ID with a current enrollment date, a class schedule, a transcript, or an enrollment verification letter. The students page adds that a school-issued email address and/or dated proof of enrollment is all that is needed. You apply from your Education benefits settings, under “GitHub Education”, with “Start an application”. The full steps are in GitHub’s guide to applying as a student.

Teachers, researchers and staff have their own education route and do not receive the pack, according to GitHub’s partner FAQ.

What if verification fails?

GitHub’s troubleshooting page lists the usual reasons for a rejected application, and what to do next. See Solving problems with your GitHub Education access for the full text.

  • Unclear documents. Blurry images, or papers whose dates do not match the criteria, need replacing. Upload a school ID, transcript or similar document that clearly shows at least one date.
  • Academic email problems. GitHub tailors verification to each school. If recent applicants from your school verified with an academic email, you must use one too. Use lowercase and no plus-addressing, and re-add the address under Settings, Emails if needed.
  • School without academic email. Send official documentation of that policy, such as a school webpage or a letter on letterhead, then reapply.
  • Domain not recognized. If GitHub does not recognize your school’s domain, contact the education support team with the school’s full name, its website URL and the email domain you tried.
  • Email already used. An academic email that already claimed a pack for another GitHub account cannot be reused, and discounts cannot be moved between accounts.
  • Not eligible. Informal learning programs outside a degree or diploma, a degree ending within the current session, and anyone under 13 are not eligible.

Approved but still on the Free plan? The benefits do not all start at the same moment. The student setup page says activation is a separate step that can take several days after approval, and tells you not to buy a paid plan while you wait. Community threads show many students asking the same thing, so be patient before you re-apply.

Which pack benefits help a beginner?

A beginner needs a few core tools, not eighty. These are worth claiming first:

  • Pro features and Copilot Student. Private repositories for collaborating with classmates, Actions minutes to run a workflow and an AI pair programmer.
  • Codespaces and a ready editor setup. A browser-based or ready-made coding environment, so an old laptop is enough to start coding.
  • GitHub Desktop and Pages. Pick the Desktop client as a friendly Git client, and Pages for free hosting of a portfolio page or an open source project.
  • One learning platform. Pick the one that fits your goal: a data platform for analytics, a front end platform for JavaScript, a back end course for server work.
  • A domain. Namecheap or Name.com gives your portfolio its own address.

Which benefits matter for a working developer or open source maintainer?

If you already ship projects, the value moves to services that cost money to run:

  • Credits. Heroku, Azure, MongoDB Atlas and Appwrite let you deploy and test a real project.
  • Observability. Sentry, Datadog, New Relic and Honeybadger show errors in production.
  • Daily-use software. JetBrains IDEs, Tower, GitKraken, Termius and a password manager.
  • Testing. BrowserStack and LambdaTest for cross-browser checks.

Credits and trials start when you claim them. A sensible habit is to activate a partner offer on the day you need it, not when you are approved.

Which pack benefits expire, and when?

GitHub’s pages give these rules. There is no single end date for all of them.

Item What GitHub says
Your education access It expires. You can reapply if you are still eligible, using the same “Start an application” steps. GitHub’s partner FAQ says student validation lasts two years.
Partner offers with a fixed term For example 24 months for Heroku, 6 months for Codedex, one year for Polypane. Most timed offers start when you set them up, and some cannot renew.
“While you are a student” offers They last as long as your verified status does.
An offer a partner removes GitHub says that if you already redeemed it, you can usually finish the term.
Copilot Student GitHub re-checks eligibility every month.

What a personal-access listing is, and what it is not

If you qualify, apply yourself. It costs nothing and the account stays yours. Some people still look for a ready-made option, so this is what DigitaVision’s personal GitHub listing is, according to its tool page:

  • A private GitHub login of your own, set up by the team, kept apart from every other customer.
  • Pro-plan features for private repositories and project work, with login details delivered through the member area.
  • One payment, listed at $25.00 today. The access period, delivery time and any warranty are shown on the tool page.

It is not GitHub’s verification process, and it is not the same thing as the pack benefits that come with a verified account. DigitaVision is not affiliated with GitHub, and the listing does not promise that you meet any GitHub requirement. The tool page also says that GitHub Copilot access is not included. Because partner offers carry their own terms, ask support which ones you can use on a personal login before you order. Support answers every day from 8 AM to 3 AM Bangladesh time, and if what you buy does not work, DigitaVision offers money back or a replacement.

Students who need other education tools can browse the Learning and Education category or the Developer, Web and WordPress tools. For another education plan explained, see how the Figma Education plan works.

Which GitHub student developer pack benefits should you claim first?

Verify first, then get your pack and claim in this order: Pro features, the AI assistant, a cloud coding setup, one learning platform and a domain. Keep cloud credits and monitoring trials for when a project is ready, because their clocks start at activation. The benefits that cost nothing but need your paperwork are worth the effort; a paid shortcut makes sense only when you cannot get verified and have read what it includes.

FAQ

Is the Student Developer Pack free?

Yes for verified students. GitHub says students who are verified get free access to professional tools and partner offers at no cost, but each partner sets its own terms, such as age or country limits.

What are the GitHub student developer pack benefits for a new coder?

Pro features, the AI assistant, free site hosting, coding packs for the editor, plus learning platforms such as Educative or Scrimba.

Can I use a non-school email?

Possibly. GitHub says dated proof of enrollment can be enough, but if recent applicants from your school used an academic email, you must too. Schools without academic email can send official documentation of that policy.

How long does verification take?

GitHub’s pages give no fixed time. After approval, benefits such as the AI assistant can take several days to appear, and partner offers are claimed one by one.

Does the pack work for ages 13-17?

Yes from age 13: GitHub’s eligibility rules say you must be at least 13 years old to get the pack, and Microsoft Azure lists a separate offer for younger students next to its 18+ offer. Each partner sets its own age and country limits, so check the card before you claim.

Is GitHub Copilot part of the pack?

Yes: it is free once you are verified, on GitHub’s own pages. The DigitaVision personal listing does not include it, per its tool page.
